Simple Steps Can Help Toddlers Stay Safe at the Pool

We innately want to protect our children from danger. Toddlers, as all parents know, are particularly accident prone. The days we’re home with our toddlers, we sometimes feel like we’re so busy preventing accidents, we accomplish little else!

Providing parents with literary tools that help teach kids safety lessons is a main goal at Books with Purpose. We’re excited to share that our latest children’s book - featuring a new character, Beckett Beaver - focuses on an important topic for all children (but particularly toddlers): water safety.

It’s difficult to think about, but important to know that drowning is the leading cause of unintentional injury-related death for children ages 1 to 4. For every child who dies from drowning, another five receive emergency department care for nonfatal submersion injuries.

May is National Water Safety and Drowning Prevention Awareness Month, an educational initiative that acknowledges that there is more that can be done in our country to keep kids safe around water, especially toddler-aged children. To heighten awareness on this issue, Books with Purpose and Aqua-Tots Swim School locations in Powell, Westerville, and Cleveland have partnered to help educate parents on important actions they can take to increase their child’s safety in and around the water. Thank you for taking a moment to read and share our Pool Safety Tips for Parents Fact Sheet - and watch our website for opportunities to learn more about this topic in the coming weeks.

We hope you will read our new book, Beckett Beaver Learns About Swim Safety , with your little ones to help prepare them for all the wonderful water activities your families may be enjoying this spring and summer.
